A Whale of a Time for two beautiful boys

I created “Whale Of a Time” last month for a very special arrival in my extended family.  We weren’t sure whether he would be a he or a she – so Elizabeth Hartman’s Preppy the Whale pattern seemed ideal !  I had completed the top of the quilt a couple of weeks earlier but was awaiting the arrival of this gorgeous baby to choose the backing – as I have to confess if Master P was not a boy the backing would have been pink !!

These rainbow whales just make me smile every time I look at them – a great quilt for tummy time.

For the Quilting I used swirls but included on each whale the splash of water coming from their blow holes – it looks really effective .

Last week, my cousins sent me a photo of their gorgeous boys enjoying their arrival gifts !!

Isn’t Master P so cute ??  So little when they are a week old !  The Size of the Quilt 60×45″ is an ideal size for a play mat or a cot quilt, or both.

Now for Master H who is just about to turn 2 – I thought how do I make him feel special too – so I created this double sided super hero cape – on one side it has the Batman logo and the other Super Big Brother.  Apparently he was Super Big Brother for days – fantastic !!

Being a Mum of four – it is always that fine line, giving them the attention while everyone “goo and gahs” over the new arrival.  Im glad the cape made Master H feel brave and super !!

Congratulations T & C on your beautiful boys.

With lots of love

Collaborate for a Cause 2015

Collaborate for a Cause 2015 is almost here !!

It is an Online Charity Auction on the 24-26th July 2015 on Facebook.

The Online Handmade Community collaborate once a year, to produce an amazing Online Auction with Fabulous items from your favourite Small Businesses. Each collaboration is able to choose the Charity that ALL proceeds from the Auction are given to. We have chosen the Melanoma Institute Australia – in Sydney. They use their amazing skills to research the treatment and cure of Melanoma.  A Cancer that has touched most families here in Australia.

This year Sewn by Leanne has teamed up with The Oz Material Girls, and are creating a beautiful Little Girls Nursery Set :  Sorbet Dreams !!

Combining A stunning 50″ Square Cot Quilt, Bunting and a Stunning 20″ Cushion Cover to match.

The Fabric we have chosen is Petit Fleur by Fabric Freedom – gorgeous pinks, yellows, greys and teals……

Here is the work in progress so far…….. sewnbyleanne_collaborate2015_binding

The Quilt Design is based on the Traditional “Bird in the Air” block.  I have Quilted in Swirls to soften all the pointy triangles !  And of Course it will be bound  with Stripes !! (My Favourite).

To match this Quilt, I have made a stunning Heart Cushion (20″ square).  The front of the Cushion has been Pieced and Quilted using gorgeous Aurifil thread (white, yellow, grey, teal and pink!).  The bunting will make make a lovely accent on a nursery wall in the same fabric, using 9 flags !

This Collaboration will be available to bid on the 24th July !!  Mark the date in your diary – as there are sooooo many participants this year – there is bound to be something to bid on, while helping others in need at the same time !

See you there, and Im sure you will hear loads more about this great event beforehand !!

Leanne x
