Garden Delights is a gorgeous Quilt I created for Ms Midge’s Heather Bailey’s Charm Along.
Together Garden Delights is a Stunning lap Quilt (54″ Square) to warm anyone’s day and to make you smile !
Usually I avoid florals, as I am never quite sure what to do with them !! So when Ms Midge announced the Charm Swap would be Heather Bailey – I took up the challenge !! I love her bright fresh colours and look what we received from the charm along – 112 gorgeous charms !!
Look at the Vibrant Gorgeous Colours !! Stunning !
The next challenge was – hmm – what shall I create. Coincidentally I had watched a couple of You Tube tutorials from the Missouri Quilt Company on You-tube earlier in the week and saw their Falling Charms !! As a lot of the floral prints are quite large I thought it would be a shame to cut them up – so out came the graph paper – and Garden Delights was created. I have altered the tutorial’s measurements as I didn’t want to reduce by 5″ squares to 4″.
As you can see each charm is bordered on two sides by Kona Cotton Snow to create the basic block.
Together they make Falling Charms !
As you have seen in a lot of my creations – I don’t usually use borders, but I still had a lot of charms – so I decided to use two borders with mitred corners. I feel mitred corners sometimes gives that traditional quilt feel !
1. 2″ kona cotton snow
2. 2.5″ strips of Heather Bailey Fabrics – created by simply cutting the charms in half.
I have to say I am very proud of these corners !! I was so excited that they worked !!
And so Garden Delights has brightened up such a dear looking Melbourne Garden !!
I already had the binding stripe in my stash – also a Heather Bailey Fabric – Fresh Cut.
The backing is Heather bailey’s Go Go Rose in Pink with a few charms added in !!
I Quilted Garden Delights myself with beautiful swirls to soften the corners.
I have really enjoyed this Charm Swap and Charm Along, as I have been challenged to work out of my comfort zone with beautiful fabrics ! So thank you Ms Midge and everyone participating for such a gorgeous charm pack to create with !
I can’t wait for the link up to see what everyone else created with these gorgeous charms.
So I challenge anyone try something different – it will pay off !!
Keep Quilting
Leanne xx
