Robotic Triangles, with love.

sewnbyleanne_patchworkquilt_robotictriangles3

Robotic Triangles – my latest Cot Quilt Set has been a labour of love !  The colours blend into the robots and the navy striped binding is stunning !

I need to apologise for all the photos – yes I am going to bombard you for two reasons.  Firstly, I love this set and will be sending it off on Monday with mixed emotions and secondly, I am thoroughly enjoying taking loads of pictures with my new camera !!sewnbyleanne_robotictraingles3_patchworkquilt

Robotic Triangles was created around the backing fabric from the Riley Blake Fabric – Fun Robots by Ann Kelle.  I have matched the solid colours on the front to the robots with Robert Kaufman’s Kona cotton solids – Capri, titanium, white, coal, lipstick, ocean and azure !

The navy stripe binding is a Moda basic !

The Cot Quilt is 60×40″  which I find is a great size for not only the cot, but also for a play mat, lap quilt and comforter.  This makes the quilt become more versatile and a longterm investment and treasure <3 .

sewnbyleanne_patchworkquilt_robotictriangles2

I have quilted Robotic Triangles with the lovely Aurifil thread 2600 light grey and 2021 white.  I have used a very modern geometric line and LOVE the secondary pattern these lines intersecting together have made.

While I was quilting, I was reminded of one of those party games ” Guess how many triangles are in this picture ???  There would be A LOT in this one !!

This is just one example of what can be created to produce stunning nursery linen that is truly unique, yet modern and stylish !!

Thanks for letting me swoon over this quilt before I send it away to it’s new home.

Leanne xx

The Sunday Wrap 2 (……but on Monday)

sewnbyleanne_whaleofatime_preppythewhale

This Sunday Wrap 2 on Monday, posted a day late….  ooops is full of colourful rainbows and fabric here !!  Michael Millers Glitz, more Kona Cotton Solids from Robert Kaufman – and I have sourced an online fabric store Clairs Fabrics that stock the whole range !!  Even more dangerous than this is, Clair actually lives only about 10 minutes from here !!

Quilts wrapped and sent with love

sewnbyleanne_fancyfox_collage

“Foxy with Style”

This Quilt was made with a lot of love and thought to the recipient – shhhh!  she/he still hasn’t received it, so I can’t say too much.  I just love using Elizabeth Hartman’s Fancy Fox pattern, and have promised my niece in the school holidays to help her make a cushion from this pattern.  Each Fabric gives the fox their own personality.  The Woodlands Fabric is a Riley Blake Print, and the striped binding is just perfect.

sewnbyleanne_geometricowboys_sundaywrap2

“Geometric Cowboys”

Geometric Cowboys is a custom made Cot Quilt (50×40″) , that filled the brief – fun, neutral tones, modern and cowboys !!

The Equilateral Triangles really POP in these neutral hues and the Cowboy Fabric on the back is Vintage with a modern fun feel !!  I have quilted this Quilt using 1 1/2″ straight lines which is stunning. As you can see I have used the same striped binding on this quilt as “Foxy with Style”

sewnbyleanne_whaleofatime_preppythewhale

“Whale of a Time”

This Quilt top is made using Elizabeth Hartman’s Preppy the Whale Pattern.  This Cot Quilt will be 40×50″, an ideal size for a play mat, cot quilt or comforter.  I love the effect of the Rainbow Whales and the Smile it brings to everyone who has seen it !  This is an easy pattern to follow.  To make the 12×4 1/2″ block the pieces are small and fiddly but the result is well worth it  – all smiles here !

The Sunday Wrap 2 includes the creation of more Quilt blocks:

sewnbyleanne_threeinoneheart

“Three in One” Heart Block

This is my first I am creating a pattern for !  It needs some tweaking – but it is a stunning 12 1/2″ block.  I will let you know when I release the pattern.

sewnbyleanne_ribbonstarblock

“Ribbon Star Block”

I love this block – as the contrast of the two colours (light and dark tones)  makes the impression of a gentle ribbon wrapping around the star – very clever !

sewnbyleanne_rippleblock_gnomeangel

Ripple Block

This block is part of the Bee Hive series by Blossom Heart Quilts.  The block itself is by Gnome Angel.  The centre square was initially negative space and I just had to see what it looked like with a fussy cut square in the centre !

This Sunday Wrap 2 shows just some of the work created by Sewn by Leanne.

From Friday 29th May to 31st May my Feather Treasures Quilt will be shown at the Modern Quilt Show in Kiama – my first quilt show – extremely exciting !!!

Special treasures……

Special treasures…..

Do you have  special treasures that you have bought or been given, that you or your child will treasure forever ?   This is what I have been thinking about while making these I Spy Quilts.

This I spy Quilt has a little of everything…………  Teddy Bears

  Cars

Animals

Pirates

Mickey Mouse

Robots

Ferris Wheel

Planes

all of these items are a special treasure or memory to a little child.

sewnbyleanne_ispyboys1_treasure

sewnbyleanne_ispyquilt2_treasureThese I Spy Quilts will be available in my Etsy Store next week for purchase.  They are both “one of a kind” bespoke quilts that will become a special treasure for your child.

Can you think of special treasures from your childhood?

I had a special Orange checked woollen blanket that I took everywhere with me.  There is even a photo somewhere, when I was 2 sucking my thumb holding onto it while it was on the washing line.  I will dig it out sometime and show you 😉  Heather, was a rag doll that also went everywhere with me.  it was bigger than me, when I was given it.  It has crying stains on the front, as when I was sad, she was the first item I hugged.  Heather was Holly Hobbie’s best friend !

My husband had a special – Teddy bear – “Noonie”.  He was very sad when his mother threw him out.  Shhhh! I can’t tell you how old he was at this stage 😉  He gave our eldest son recently his treasured Lego Fire Engine he was given on his 8th Birthday.

I have so enjoyed making these Quilts and will enjoy passing them onto the next generation to treasure and love <3.

Blessings,

Leanne

I Spy Quilt ………

sewnbyleanne_ispy_economyquilt3

I spy quilt …….. that 100 5″ Economy Blocks make a Gorgeous Quilt top today.

sewnbyleanne_ispy_economyblock

One of the things I love most about Quilting is fussy cutting….. and it is even more enjoyable now that I have such a stash of fabric – I have small pieces of fabric I can use for projects such as these.  I remember looking at I Spy Quilts when I first started to quilt, and thought Oh dear – that would be a lot of FQs to buy to achieve such a project !!  And here we are 4 years later – and Yay !!

sewnbyleanne_ispy_economyblock2

This was a work in progress (one of those UFOs) for a while.  Each block being created as I found the small pieces of fabric to use.  Instead of picking the fabric first.  The fabric was used if it was big enough to cut two 3″ or 4″ squares.  Of course being an I Spy Quilt, I went through my character fussy cut bits and pieces I use for appliqué etc….

sewnbyleanne_ispy_economyblock4

I love it when you see 4 blocks together, and then a few more, and then another……  The Economy Block I used is mentioned in the gorgeous blog of Sew Delicious, in which she refers to the Economy Block tutorial of Red Pepper Quilts.

This “I Spy Quilt” is beautiful.

sewnbyleanne_ispy_economyquilt3

This 50″ Square I Spy Quilt would make a great play mat for that special someone or a cot quilt when they get a little older !!  Now for the Quilting and binding !  This Quilt will be available in my Etsy store very soon.

Thanks for reading.
